Futurama Arts Marketplace
Futurama Arts Marketplace is hub of activity in the epicenter of fabulous Calle Ocho in the heart of Miami’s famed Little Havana. Barlington Group purchased and restored the 1938 building in 2011. For nearly a decade, it has been home to visual art galleries, working space for artists and vendors who sell creative merchandise. At any given time, there are more than a dozen resident artists and vendors. The space is popular with both the millions who visit Calle Ocho each year and Miami residents who support local artists.
Futurama is a colorful fulfillment of Barlington’s mission of supporting and growing local artists in Miami’s core neighborhoods and on its classic corridors. Barlington, a major investor in Little Havana and driver of its 21st century renaissance, has its headquarters in the creative space. The Arts & Business Council of Miami, also housed in Futurama, hosts numerous events for artists to network and market their creations. Open daily, the classic old Tamiami Trail space at 1637 S.W. 8th Street also regularly hosts community events for a variety of organizations.
The name Futurama pays homage to the name of a furniture store on the same block that served the neighborhood’s immigrant population from the mid-1960s to mid-1990s. That space, just footsteps away, was restored into the Ball and Chain bar and lounge – one of Miami’s premier venues for live music, creative cuisine and drinks.
